Norway 2007
Inspired by our trip to Alaska we booked a Norway trip for 2007. The ferry from Newcastle to Bergen ran for the final time in that year and I’m sure it will have been missed by the friendly Newcastle women who regularly used it in the summer as a cheap mini-break. From Bergen we travelled by train to Oslo, then by bus and train to Trondheim and finally by train to Bodo where we took the Hurtegrüten ferry across to the Lofoten Islands. After several days in the Lofoten islands we returned on the ferry to Bergen before heading off again on a Fjord trip to Flöm. I kept a travel journey of our holiday and as I’ve always found ferry trips, at least those that travel within sight of land, a good time to sit and sketch, my resulting travel journal was a mix of drawn maps, words and drawings. On returning home I was able to add small photos to the journal to complete the visual diary.
